3 Civilians Killed in a New US Airstrike in Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –Three civilians were killed in a US airstrike near Al-Shabaab controlled Jilib town in south Somalia, residents have confirmed.

The airstrike occurred in Kalaguur area which is about 15km away from Jilib town where several missiles hit a residential area.

Three civilians were killed in the strike including a 70 year old woman, well-known local real estate broker and a farmer with a 3 year old child reportedly wounded.

The attack took place late Monday and residents raise fear that other strikes may target their homes as drones have flown over the skies.

AFRICOM and Somali government have yet to confirm the attack which adds to the suffering of Somali civilians in an already delicate situation fraught with prolonged conflict, diseases and locust plagues.

Dozens of civilians have been killed in US airstrikes in Somalia in the first quarter of 2020 that has triggered local outrage and condemnation by Amnesty International, which calls on the US military to stop targeting civilians.
