Al-Shabaab Repudiates Claims by the Italian Newspaper La Repubblica Over a Telephone Interview

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –The Somali Islamist group Al-Shabaab has lambasted recent reports by Italian media as lies disseminated to legalize hate campaign against freed aid worker Aisha Romano.

The Al-Qaeda affiliated group says its spokesman did not speak with any media about the release of Aisha Romano, stressing that La Repubblica’s claims of interviewing Sh. Ali Dhere were part of disseminated “lies”.

Earlier, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica said they had interviewed Al-Shabaab spokesman who according to their claims, said “Silvia’s ransom money will be used to finance Jihad”.

Hours later, Al-Shabaab has repudiated claims as lies and gross distortion of truth aimed to promote racism against Aisha Romano who earlier said she converted to Islam after returning home from Somalia.

Italy has also denied reports published by La Repubblica and other local newspapers saying that Turkey had played a pivotal role in the release of Aisha Romano, describing the news as one that aims to cover up current government’s achievement.
