Aljazeera journalists tortured in Mogadishu as Press Freedom Day is marked

(Somaliguardian-Mogadishu)- The Somali security forces apprehended Aljazeera journalists heading for work and subjected them to a merciless persecution as the Somali media body confirms.

The Security forces caught the reporters at Zoobe neighborhood in Mogadishu, torturing them and destroying their equipment which included expensive cameras and microphones.

Persecution and torture of journalists have been increasing in the Somali capital in the past few years and yet no one has been trialed for such crimes perpetrated on a routinely basis against humanity.

Media bodies based in Somalia have condemned the persecution of the Aljazeera journalists and called on the government to take quick stance against the misdemeanors.

The spokesman of the Somali president speaking to media earlier on Tuesday stated that the government have quickly took steps in arresting those who have been behind the torture and persecution of Al-Jazeera journalists, however, no one has been displayed to the lens of media cameras –arrested for the crime.

Somalia has long been an environment where crimes perpetrated by government troops against journalists have never been given heed and neither the government, nor its international partners tried to trial their members who were behind crimes against Somali journalists.
