At least 7 Somali Government Troops Killed in a Roadside Bomb Attack Near Janale District

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –At least 7 Somali soldiers have been killed after a military vehicle ran over a roadside bomb planted in the road linking Bufo and Janale in the Lower Shabelle region, Somalia.

Meanwhile, mortar attack occurred in Janale district which was earlier retaken by Somali army bolstered by AMISOM and US Special Forces.

At least 40 mortar bombs fell inside bases housing AMISOM and Somali government troops, according to residents.

The attack destroyed weapons depots and tents in the bases that forced troops to swiftly withdraw from the area. Residents say troops have entered Janale district after fleeing from base due intense mortar bombardment.

Casualties remain unknown so far. AMISOM and Somali army commanders have not yet commented on the attack, but on the other side, Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it inflicted heavy losses upon its enemy.

Janale is a strategic, agricultural town in the Lower Shabelle region in Somalia which has so long been under the control of Al-Shabaab before the group lost it just over week ago to Somali army and AMISOM forces.
