Al-Shabaab Torches Eight Trucks Belonging to Chinese Company in Kenya’s Lamu County

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Eight trucks belonging to China Communications Construction Company were set on fire on Sunday in an attack claimed by the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab, which had taken place in Kenya’s Lamu County.

Kenyan security officials said militants had fired and detonated explosives at a Chinese company parking lot and subsequently destroyed 8 trucks in an assault that comes days after insurgents claimed credit for a number of overnight raids in several Kenyan counties.

The vehicles torched by militants were undertaking a project Omolo-Bodhei area on the Lamu-Garissa highway, according to Kenyan local media. There are reports that insurgents were planning to target a project along Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET).

Al-Shabaab said it was behind the attack, though it has not been immediately known if there were casualties among company employees.
