Djibouti Concerned Over Ethiopia Conflict

Djibouti

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Djibouti is deeply concerned about the war raging in neighboring Ethiopia where forces loyal to the war-wrecked Tigray region’s ruling party and government troops are battling for the control of key areas in a renewed conflict, a senior official said on Friday.

The tiny Horn of Africa nation found the situation in Ethiopia “very worrying”, Alexei Mohamed, chief advisor to president Ismail Omar Guelleh told Reuters, days after reports emerged of Djibouti deploying more troops and weapons on the border with Ethiopia as clashes intensified in Afar region.

Tigray rebels claimed to have made gains in Afar region and footage circulated online shows soldiers, weapons and military vehicles captured in the recent gun battle.

The new conflict forced at least 54,000 people from their homes, triggering fears of a refugee exodus to Djibouti which borders Ethiopia’s Afar region.
