CAIRO (Somaliguardian) – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Saturday he had discussed with his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall the developments on a spat with Ethiopia over the Renaissance Dam.
At a joint press conference, el-Sisi stressed that he had spoken with Sall about Egypt’s viewpoint considering the Nile River as a source of cooperation and development, and a comprehensive lifeline for the Nile basin countries.
“I stressed to the Senegalese president the need to reach a fair, balanced and binding legal agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam, in accordance with the rules of international law and the outcomes of the security Council in this context, in the manner of an appropriate time frame and without unilateral measures,” el-Sisi said.
It comes weeks after Ethiopia called for a cooperation with Egypt and Sudan on efforts to bring an end to a long-standing dispute on a mega dam Addis Ababa is building on the Blue Nile River, drawing cautious welcome from Egyptian authorities.
