Eritrean Troops in Tigray Wearing Ethiopian Army Uniforms: USAID

Eritrean

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – USAID has said Eritrean forces are wearing Ethiopian uniforms as pressure continues to build on Asmara to withdraw from the embattled Tigray region.

It also stressed that Eritrean presence in the war-hit region “remains unchanged” as violence still grips the northern Ethiopian state, journalist Martin Plaut reported on Friday.

This comes after reports that Abiy Ahmed and Isaias Afwerki agreed that Asmara’s involvement in the war continues and that Eritrean forces wear Ethiopian army uniforms to hide their identities after calls by western governments for their immediate withdrawal have increased.

Fierce clashes between Eritrean and Ethiopian troops and Tigray defense forces have continued in the region over past weeks, in joint effort by the allied governments to dislodge “remnants” of the TPLF.
