Eritrea’s President Arrives in Sudan for Two Day Visit

Eritrea

KHARTOUM (Somaliguardian) – Eritrea’s president Isaias Afwerki has arrived in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Tuesday morning amid simmering tensions over Asmara’s involvement in an escalating border row between Sudanese and Ethiopian governments.

He was received at Khartoum Airport by the head of Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, accompanied by Foreign Minister Mariam Al-Sadiq and a number of Eritrean embassy staff.

Afwerki accompanied by the minister of foreign affairs Osman Saleh and his advisor Issayas Yamani Qabriab held meeting with Sudanese government officials on issues, including bilateral relations, tensions on Ethiopia’s border and a visit by US Horn of Africa envoy to the region.

Sudan had previously accused Eritrea of deploying its troops along the disputed border between Sudan and Ethiopia, though Asmara denied the claims.
