Ethiopia

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has appointed Abraham Belay as the new head of Tigray’s interim administration after Mulu Nega left the post on Wednesday.

Nega who resigned on Wednesday has been appointed as the Minister of Science and Higher Education after serving as the head of Tigray region for nearly six months since a war between Ethiopian army backed by Eritrean troops and Tigrayan forces erupted in the region on November last year.

Abraham Belay was the Minister of Innovation and Technology until his appointment as the new head of Tigray regional administration on Wednesday.

It comes as fighting still continues in many parts of the region with reports of human rights abuses committed by the warring sides increasing by the day.
