Ethiopia’s PM says GERD’s Second Filling Continues As Scheduled

Ethiopia

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Ethiopia’s National Security Council confirmed on Saturday that Addis Ababa will continue the second filling of the Renaissance Dam as scheduled, despite international efforts to resolve a dispute over the mega dam.

The announcement has come in a statement issued by the Ethiopian National Security Council after a meeting convened by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Abiy Ahmed accused external and internal parties, without mentioning names, of causing chaos and destabilization in the country, which sees an uptick of ethnic violence as conflict in the northern Tigray region reaches a point of no return.

It comes as Sudan and Egypt call for international interference in Ethiopia’s unilateral filling of the GERD as both countries warn that Addis Ababa’s “intransigence” could lead to conflicts in the region.
