Ethiopia’s Somali, Afar Forces Clash Again

Ethiopia

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Clashes between Somali and Afar regional troops have again erupted in the town of War-Issa on Tuesday afternoon, hours after the Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed visited the flash-point area as the conflict between the two ethnic groups seems set to intensify.

Ethiopia’s prime minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in the area hours before the fighting broke out and toured a drone base at the Semera airport amid unconfirmed reports that Turkish and Chinese-made reports have been arriving for the Ethiopian military over the past days.

Afar and Somali troops exchanged heavy gunfire, though casualties on both sides have not been immediately known, as the latest flareup comes days after the conflict between the two ethnic groups spilled into neighboring Djibouti.
