Fighting erupts in Ethiopia’s Gambella town after rebels attack govt offices

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Heavy fighting erupted in the town of Gambella in western Ethiopia after allied rebel groups attacked government offices and an army base on Tuesday.

Speaking to BBC Amharic, residents described hearing heavy exchange of gunfire between troops and rebels near government offices, though casualties have not been immediately known.

There were unconfirmed reports that Oromo Liberation Front (OLA) and Gambella Liberation Front urged residents to stay indoors. Regional authorities have yet to brief the media about the latest developments.
