NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab said it had killed 30 Kenyan soldiers in an attack in Kenya’s Wajir county on Monday, just a week after another assault left a number of police officers dead.

An explosion hit soldiers sent as reinforcements to police officers that had come under attack in Konton village and 30 died, none of them survived, militants claimed via their affiliated media on Tuesday.

Wajir County Police Commander Hilary Teroitich confirmed the early morning incident, adding that security forces repulsed assailants and denied reports that some locals were abducted.

There was an incident at a Mosque at Konton but our officers responded swiftly and saved the situation,” he said.

They intended to preach their false doctrine to the residents but that never happened,” he added, saying there were no casualties as a result of the shootout.
