NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) said more than 2,500 Ethiopian and Eritrean troops were killed and wounded on 28-29 April following attacks in Ethiopia’s north.

In a video released via DW, the TDF claimed that its forces ambushed Eritrean troops in Rahya, Adwa Woreda and killed over 313 Eritrean soldiers with 488 others wounded.

On 29 April 2021, Tigrayan forces launched an offensive against Ethiopian troops in Werkamba near Tebien killing 420 soldiers and wounding 621 others. Ethiopia’s 31st Division’s first, second and fourth Brigades were participating, according to the TDF. It also noted that 107mm rocket and ZU-23 were destroyed and large ammunition cache was captured.

The Tigrayan group says it successfully repelled an offensive by Ethiopian army in Suluh near Hawzien, eastern Tigray where 290 soldiers, including deputy brigade commander Major Engida were killed and 385 wounded, with 3 others captured along with various weapons and ammunition.

Somaliguardian has not been able to verify TDF claims independently due to communications blackout in Tigray and journalists barred access to the northern Ethiopian region.
