Sudan Summons Ethiopia’s Ambassador over Tigrayan Bodies Found in River

Sudan PM

KHARTOUM (Somaliguardian) – Sudan summoned Ethiopia’s ambassador to Khartoum to inform him that 29 corpses found on the banks of a river bordering Ethiopia were those of Ethiopian citizens from Tigray ethnic group, Sudan’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Teusday.

The ambassador had been summoned on August 30 and was informed that the bodies had been found between July 26 and August 8 on the Sudanese side of the Setit River, Sudan’s foreign ministry said.

Ethiopians living in the Wad al Hulaywah area of eastern Sudan identified the corpses, it added.

Ethiopia has not immediately commented on the move by Sudan’s government and its subsequent statement.

It comes amid escalating tensions between Ethiopia and Sudan, after Addis Ababa accused Khartoum of co-planning a botched sabotage attack on the Renaissance Dam, which had been allegedly carried out by armed group allied with Tigray forces.

Days later, Sudan said it had seized a shipment of weapons on Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa on suspicion that the arms were destined for use in “crimes against the state”.
