Tsadkan Gebretensae: Tigray Top General Rules out Talks with Ethiopia’s Government

Tsadkan Gebretensae

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – The commander of Tigray forces Tsadkan Gebretensae has ruled out negotiations with the government of Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed as the United States raises alarm at Tigrayan rebels’ advance in Amhara region a year into the fighting, saying the war is nearing its end.

In an interview with Tigray TV controlled by the Tigrayan rebels, he said “there’s nothing that can be solved through negotiations”.

It came after the Tigrayan fighters had captured the strategic towns of Kombolcha and Dessie on a highway to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in a blow to Abiy Ahmed’s government.

Ethiopian government has accused Tigray forces of killing dozens of civilians in Kombolcha, but there is no independent confirmation of its claim and the rebels have repeatedly denied targeting civilians.
