Al-Shabaab to Issue Report Card of Somalia’s President as Term Ends

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab said on Wednesday that it will release a report card of Somalia’s incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, whose four year term expires next week.

The group’s media wing, Al-Kataib, issued a statement saying that it will soon release a new documentary series entitled “Farmajo: False Promises and Fading Hopes” to look into election promises of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

It added “we ask whether Farmajo has been able to fulfill his campaign promises or not” on a number of issues include defeating Al-Shabaab, reducing reliance on foreign troops, alleviating poverty and pushing through reforms to stamp out widespread corruption.

The documentary series is being released as Somalia’s president faces pressure as his term expires within 4 days while prospects of an election held on time continue to recede.

Somali government has not immediately commented on the announcement.

It is first the time the group announced publishing documentary series assessing a serving president’s performance during a sensitive election time.
