MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Blast has hit a popular hotel near Adan Adde International airport in Somalia’s capital on Sunday afternoon, followed by a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Reports from Mogadishu say a vehicle packed with explosives was rammed into the gate of a popular hotel often attended by officials and opposition presidential candidates running against the incumbent leader Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in the upcoming elections.
Two other explosions have taken place shortly after the previous blast and incessant gunfire has been heard.
Unverified reports say gunmen have entered Afrik hotel near Mogadishu’s international airport after blasting their way into the hotel complex.
Al-Shabaab militant group has claimed responsibility for an attack.
Casualties have not been immediately known and military vehicles and ambulances have been seen rushing to the site of the attack.
