Iranian Ship Attacked off Eritrea’s Coast

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – An Iranian cargo ship, said to be affiliated with the country’s Revolutionary Guard, has been attacked off the coast of Eritrea, Al Arabiya TV reported on Tuesday, quoting unnamed sources.

It cited sources as saying that the Iranian ship suffered damage after being attacked in the Red Sea waters.

Israel informed Washington that it had struck the Iranian ship in retaliation for Tehran’s strikes against Israeli ships, according to the New York Times. Israeli commandos waited for the passage of the US aircraft carrier Eisenhower to target the Iranian cargo ship, a US official said.

Iranian Tasnim news agency also reported that the ship was targeted with a sticky marine mine in the Red Sea.

Israeli commandos affixed a magnetic explosive device to the Iranian ship, sources told Al-Arabiya.

The Saudi-owned television also quoted an Israeli military analyst as saying that his country had previously targeted Iranian oil tankers in several locations, from the Red Sea in the south to the Syrian coast in the north.

Pentagon said US forces have nothing to do with the accident, adding that it has no additional information about the attack on the Iranian Saviz ship.

Iran has not immediately commented on the attack.
