NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has met with his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi on Monday, a day after departing on his first visit to Kenya since assuming office in late 2017.
In a statement, press office of Kenyan president said Uhuru Kenyatta “hosted bilateral talks between Kenya and the visiting Somaliland delegation” led by President Muse Bihi Abdi.
During the meeting, the two leaders initiated discussions on a number of subjects of mutual interest.
Kenyan government noted that the two presidents were set to meet again on Tuesday to finalize talks over establishing relations.
“We discussed a number of subjects of mutual interest with the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, today at the State House in Nairobi,” said Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi in a tweet shortly after meeting with his Kenyan counterpart.
“We are grateful to H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and the people of Kenya for their warm welcome during this official visit.”
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi arrived in Kenya on his first visit to the country since assuming office in late 2017, after receiving an invitation from Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Somaliland is internationally considered as a region part of Somalia, though it claims to be a sovereign state that reclaimed independence following the collapse of the country’s central government in 1991.
The visit of Somaliland President to Kenya is feared to add tinder to deeply strained relations between Nairobi and Mogadishu, pending an urgent IGAD leaders meeting scheduled to be held next week to bring an end to the row.
