MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Some of the residents in the Somali capital, Mogadishu have been seen carrying dead body over their shoulders after roads were closed upon the arrival of Puntland and Jubaland leaders.
A video circulated on social media shows some of the city’s residents carrying a dead body over their shoulders, heading to graveyards on the outskirts of the city.
Several of the capital’s roads were closed on Tuesday morning as the Presidents of Puntland and Jubaland are expected to arrive to hold talks with federal government and other regional states leaders on upcoming elections.
Transporting dead bodies on shoulders without any other means of transportation has been typical of the Somali capital over the past three years since the incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo was elected to office. Many of the city’s roads have been permanently blocked to traffic, with the few remaining coming under frequent closures.
A few weeks ago, a similar video was filmed of residents carrying dead body trying to reach cemeteries on the outskirts of the city, after roads in Yaqshid and Karan districts were closed due to untold circumstances.
