Senior District Official Killed in Bomb Attack in Somalia’s Capital

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A senior district official has been killed in a bomb attack in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, local officials have confirmed on Tuesday.

A blast said to be caused by a roadside bomb ripped through a vehicle transporting deputy commissioner of Daynile district Abdi Mohamed Mohamud in Darusalam neighborhood, west of the capital Mogadishu.

The official was immediately rushed to hospital, though he has later succumbed to injuries from the bombing.

The attack comes as tensions continue to build up in Mogadishu over a parliament vote last week that extended the president’s term, adding tinder to an already precarious situation.

No one has immediately claimed responsibility but the militant group Al-Shabaab often carries out attacks targeting government officials and troops in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
