MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s civil society has raised concern over federal and regional commissions appointed contrary to recent deal signed between Somali political stakeholders.
Leader of Somalia’s civil society Osman Muhidin Shatah said the federal government was bypassing to implement an agreement with federal and regional leaders. He added that electoral commissions appointed by federal and regional governments comprise government officials.
Mr Shatah reiterated that the federal and regional-level electoral commissions will be unable to lead the country to free and fair elections in Somalia.
Wadajir opposition leader Abdirahman Abdishakur similarly stressed that the newly appointed electoral commission comprises intelligence agents and officials close to the incumbent leader. He called on the government to revoke the new electoral commission to ensure upcoming elections are credible.
