Somalia: Mortar Attack on Dhusamareb amid FGS-FMS Talks

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Mortar shells rained down on the town of Dhusamareb in central Somalia where talks between Somalia’s federal and regional leaders over upcoming elections are underway, local officials have confirmed on Friday.

Local officials have told media that militants engaged in exchange of gunfire with troops after firing several mortar bombs to the town.

Somali security officials in the town claimed that 8 members of those involved in the mortar attack were killed on Thursday night.

It is not the first attack targeting the town recently; however, there have been other similar assaults by the militants on the town since government officials including president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and regional state leaders arrived in the town earlier this week.

No one has immediately claimed responsibility but local authorities blame Al-Shabaab for the attack.
