MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least 14 Ugandan peacekeepers and six Somali soldiers were killed in a suicide car bomb attack targeting their convoy near Afgoye town in the Lower Shabelle region, as they launched an offensive to retake key towns from Al-Shabaab, Clash Report reported on Wednesday.

The troops were advancing to recapture the strategic river-crossing towns of Sabiid and Anole to break the militant siege on Mogadishu and secure critical supply lines when the attack occurred.

However, heavy resistance from militants thwarted their efforts. Al-Shabaab also reportedly destroyed key bridges in Sabiid and Barire to block African Union forces from retaking three strategic towns near the capital, which the group seized in recent months.
