MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least 15 Ethiopian soldiers were killed when a vehicle they had been traveling in central Somalia’s Hiran region was struck by a roadside bomb, Al-Shabaab armed group said via its affiliated media on Saturday.

The explosion hit an Ural truck carrying Ethiopian soldiers on the road linking Feerfeer with Kalabayr in Hiran region, killing 15 soldiers onboard, the group claimed without giving further details.

AMISOM peacekeeping mission, under whose mandate half of the Ethiopian troops operate in Somalia, has not immediately commented on the attack and assertions by the militants.

Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab said six Ugandan soldiers were killed in a separate bomb attack targeting an armored military vehicle near the town of El-waregow in the Lower Shabelle region.

On Thursday, group’s fighters killed at least eight people, including five soldiers in a dawn attack in the town of Bal’ad, some 30 km north of the capital Mogadishu, sources were quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.
