MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – An Al-Shabaab gunman entered a Kenyan military base in Somalia on Monday, killing at least three soldiers in an ensuing shooting spree and wounding 5 others, Kenyan military said.

The lone attacker entered Sariira Forward Operation Base in the Lower Juba region near the border with Kenya. He fired indiscriminately at the soldiers inside before he was gunned down early on Monday morning, a Kenyan military official said on condition of anonymity.

Al-Shabaab media reported an attack on the town of Hosingow on Monday, but the group made no comments on casualties inflicted by the assault.

A Kenyan military official said “the lone wolf attacker was testing the ground for more such incidents”, adding that the Kenyan troops in Somalia need to be very vigilant of their surroundings.

“The terror threat is still rife and all measures should be taken to tame any plan,” he added.
