MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Qaeda-aligned Al-Shabaab militants on Tuesday attacked an army base in central Somalia’s Galgadud region, days after overrunning a military camp manned by Ugandan peacekeepers.
In a statement, Somalia’s government said troops had repelled the assault after receiving a tip from residents, adding that 30 insurgents were killed.
Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab said it had killed 73 soldiers, seized military vehicles and captured a number of prisoners. But there have been no independent confirmation of claims by both sides.
