MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Shabaab militants captured two towns in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region on Friday, further weakening Somali army defense lines in the region which borders the capital Mogadishu.

The group seized Boos Hareeri and Al Kowther, located near the strategic town of Adan Yabal, following intense fighting that resulted in the deaths of soldiers and commanders.

Images released by the militants showed military vehicles captured during the clashes, including one equipped with a Zu-23 anti-aircraft gun.

This latest capture brings the number of towns seized by Al-Shabaab in recent weeks to nearly a dozen. The offensive comes just days after the group took control of War Eise, a town located only 25 kilometers from Jowhar, the capital of Hirshabelle state.
