MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – In a speech at the Oslo Forum 2024, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Tuesday the global agenda of the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab complicates efforts to initiate peace talks to end the country’s decades-long conflict.

“The President touched on the government’s commitment to spare no effort to pursuing peaceful means to reduce the extremist violence, including initiating political engagements and providing amnesty to members who denounce the extremist ideology,” Villa Somalia said in a statement.

“He further emphasized that “the terrorist’s global agenda complicates these efforts.”
