Armed militia captures northern Somalia’s Lasanod town

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – An armed militia seized control of the northern Somalia town of Lasanod on Thursday, hours after attacking bases housing Somaliland troops, local media reported.

Videos circulated on social media showed armed men in control of the town, who ordered telecommunication companies to restore internet services or otherwise face consequences.

Somaliland military officials told media that they had pulled out their troops following calls from regional traditional elders but threatened that they would return chaos continues to grip the restive town.

More than a dozen people have been killed in days of violent protests and clashes between residents and the security forces of the northern Somali separatist region.
