At least 4 civilians killed in suspected US drone strike in northeastern Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Four civilians were killed and six others injured in a suspected US drone strike near the town of Qandala in northeastern Somalia’s Puntland region, where local security forces have been conducting clearing operations targeting ISIS militants, officials reported on Wednesday.

The victims, believed to be members of a single family, were caught in the strike, which authorities have described as a tragic incident. In response, officials urged civilians to vacate areas where counterterrorism operations are focused, stressing that airstrikes targeting ISIS hideouts will continue as part of the ongoing military efforts.

Authorities also appealed to rural communities to provide information on the movements and hideouts of militants, asserting that such cooperation would be crucial to the success of the ongoing operations and the swift conclusion of the campaign against the insurgent group.
