ATMIS to hand over security responsibility of Somalia’s presidential palace

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) will hand over the security responsibility of the country’s presidential palace in Mogadishu for the first time in 16 years ahead of the second phase of the drawdown of its peacekeepers, Somali official said on Saturday.

Somali National Security Advisor Hussein Sheikh Ali said that the African Union peacekeepers will vacate the palace and the office of the Prime Minister and parliament compound.

“SNAF & SPF will proudly take over the responsibility of @TheVillaSomalia tmrw [tomorrow], marking a significant milestone for the STP [Somali Transition Plan],” Sheikh Ali tweeted.

“Farewell and @ATMIS Somalia UPDF contingency who has been responsible for protecting the Presidency, OPM and Parliament House for the last 16 yrs.”
