GAROWE (Somaliguardian) – A bomb concealed in garbage container exploded inside a government compound in central Somalia, where meeting between officials was underway on Sunday morning.
Loud noise of an explosion was heard in the town of Galkayo in the central Somalia region of Mudug, targeting the city’s municipality shortly after work-related meeting got underway.
Officials who have spoken to Somaliguardian say an explosive device hidden inside a waste container went off soon after the city’s mayor Abdirahman Sheikh entered the compound.
Unconfirmed reports earlier suggested the attack was a car bomb blast rammed into the gate of Galkayo municipality, but local officials have denied.
At least four people are said to have been wounded, among them security guards. There are contradictory reports over casualties; with some saying two people have been killed.
No one has yet claimed responsibility, but Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab often carries out attacks in the city. It killed the governor of Mudug region in an explosion in Galkayo several months ago.
