MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Several Ethiopian soldiers were killed and a number of others wounded in a bomb attack targeting African Union peacekeepers in the southwestern Somalia region of Bakol on Wednesday.
Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack, claiming that three Ethiopian soldiers had been killed with a number of others wounded.
A roadside bomb explosion took place near a well in the town of Wajid in southwestern Somalia, which is frequently used by Ethiopian soldiers stationed in the area, a local security official said.
“The explosion killed one soldier on the spot. The two others injured have been taken to hospital,” Adan Isak, a Somali security official in the town of Wajid told Anadolu news agency via phone.
Ethiopian military and AMISOM peacekeepers have not immediately commented on the bomb blast, the latest in a string of attacks carried by insurgents over the past days.
