MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Two Ugandan peacekeepers were killed and three others wounded when a vehicle they had been traveling struck a roadside bomb in the Lower Shabelle region of south Somalia, the militant group Al-Shabaab said via affiliated media on Sunday.

African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia has not immediately commented on the attack, which comes days after Kenyan and Burundian soldiers were killed in similar blasts.

An armored vehicle carrying the peacekeepers near the town of Janale, some 95 km from Mogadishu, has been reportedly destroyed by the blast.

AU commanders in the region have not been available for comment. Somaliguardian has not been to verify claims of the Islamist militant group independantly, which continues more than a decade-long insurgency campaign against the western-backed government in Mogadishu and African Union troops.
