Detained Somali Islamist Leader Threatens Retaliation Against the US

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Detained Somali Islamist leader Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys threatened retaliation following recent US air strike that killed senior military commander, who played significant role in the insurgency war against Ethiopian invasion of Somalia.

Mr Aways who is currently under house arrest in Mogadishu said Abdulkadir Commandoes, senior Islamist figure was killed unarmed and copying with illness at his home in the town of Sakow.

He described the air strike as a heinous crime against the Somali public, as the man served the nation from his service to the national military and insurgency war against Ethiopian troops following the 2006 invasion.

In a video message circulated on social media, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aways, a close friend of the late Islamist figure threatened he would retaliate with a move that will be compiled by the history for the next generations to come.

Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, one of the founders of Islamist groups in Somalia and former military commander during the reign of Mohamed Siad Barre was arrested by the federal government in mid 2013 and since then, has been under house arrest in the capital, Mogadishu.

The federal government has not yet commented on Aweys’s stern message, but the man has recently been using social media to share his views with the public on trending political issues.
