MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Ghuelleh is seeking to cool simmering tensions in northern Somalia’s town of Lasanod following weeks of violence that left a number of people dead, the executive secretary of the Inter-governmental Authority of Development (IGAD) Workneh Gebeyehu has said.
The official said IGAD was concerned about escalating tensions in the town that has been under control of Somaliland authorities for decades before a protests led to the withdrawal of troops loyal to the separatist region from the town last month.
