MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Leaders of Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti are set to attend an upcoming inauguration ceremony of new Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, which is due for May 9.

Djibouti’s leader Ismail Omar Ghuelleh and the President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta, whose governments’ relations with Somalia reached a record low point during the reign of outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, are now hoping to reset ties with the new Somali administration.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, a key ally of Farmajo, is also expected to attend the ceremony in what appears to be a new era for cooperation between the countries. New Somali President was an ally of Ethiopia’s former Tigrayan rulers, who have been designated as terrorists by Abiy’s government.

Advance teams paving the way for the arrival of the East African heads of state arrived in Mogadishu over the past days.

Main roads in the Somali capital have been closed to traffic on Tuesday with police deploying in large numbers and armored vehicles across streets leading to the presidential palace.
