Ethiopia pitting international partners against Somalia, says FM

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Ethiopia is deliberately maneuvering to pit international partners against Somalia, Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has said in a scathing critique that  comes amidst the backdrop of strained relations between the neighboring Horn of Africa nations.

According to Caasimada Online news website, Fiqi told a parliamentary committee that Addis Ababa is leveraging its international connections to undermine Somalia’s position on the global stage, in what could lead the international partners to withdraw their security and development assistance to Mogadishu.

Addis Ababa has told a number of regional and international partners that Mogadishu closed all spaces for dialogue and peaceful end to simmering tensions over a controversial sea access deal it signed in January with the breakaway region of Somaliland, triggering public outrage across Somalia and sparking the ire of Villa Somalia.

The Somali Minister continued to add that Addis Ababa’s meddling in the internal affairs of Somalia and violation of the country’s sovereignty show no sign of abating.
