MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s former Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse has stirred controversy by proposing that the government relinquish its efforts in the conflict with Ethiopia and allow Al-Shabaab militants to take the lead. This recommendation comes amid escalating tensions over Addis Ababa’s pursuit of a Red Sea maritime outlet in the break-away region of Somaliland.
In an interview with BBC Somali, Muse expressed his view that if the current government is unable to effectively manage the conflict with Ethiopia, it should consider transferring control to insurgent forces who have been actively opposing Ethiopian advances in the country. This provocative suggestion marks a significant departure from conventional diplomatic strategies and has sparked intense debate within political circles.
Abdisaid Muse, known for his outspoken views on foreign policy, served as Foreign Minister from 2021 to 2022 and has maintained a prominent role in shaping discussions on Somalia’s diplomatic relations and national security.
