MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government said on Monday hundreds of Somali nationals stranded in Ukraine since the Russian invasion earlier this month had been released after interference by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is pleased to announce the release of three hundred and forty-eight displaced Somali nationals who have been stranded in Ukraine and along its borders including some due to lack of documentation,” Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Monday.
“In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia has facilitated the placement of sixty-five students in higher institutions in Hungary – after registering their interest with the Ministry.”
The federal government urged Somali students displaced by the conflict in Ukraine, who want to continue their higher education outside the war-hit country to register with the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
