MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – An exchange of gunfire broke out between Puntland regional troops ahead of a controversial local government election which is set to be held soon, Caasimada Online news website reported on Tuesday.
Fighting erupted outside a security checkpoint near Garowe Airport after troops escorting vehicles carrying ballot boxes were attacked by forces loyal to opposition politicians.
At least four soldiers were killed and 9 others wounded in the gun battle. There have been no reports of civilian casualties as a result of the gunfire exchange.
