MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Armed Islamist group in the Gaza strip Hamas has congratulated new Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on his election victory and urged him to support the Palestinian cause.
“On behalf of Hamas and the Palestinian people in general, I would like to send this message of congratulations to our Somali brothers and sisters, especially to the elected brotherly president. We wish peace and prosperity for them,” Ismail Haniya, a senior political leader of Hamas said in a statement dated May 15, according to Jowhar Somali news website.
“We wish you success in leading the country and serving your nation to address the major issues ahead. You must play your part in the Palestinian cause.”
