MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A heavy barrage of mortar shells struck a base housing Ethiopia’s troops in the southern Somalia town of Dinsor on Sunday, a day after insurgents claimed killing 10 Somali soldiers in the restive region.
Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack, claiming to have killed at least two Ethiopian soldiers with five others wounded. Two military military vehicles were also destroyed in the assault, according to the group. Al-Shabaab-affiliated media reported that 24 mortar bombs had fallen inside the targeted base.
Ethiopian troops in Somalia and Southwest regional authorities have not immediately commented on the attack.
Militants claimed killing 10 Southwest regional troops in an attack targeting their base in Dinsor on Saturday and reportedly paraded their bodies in some of their strongholds in Bay region.
