MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Attempts by Kenya and Djibouti to mediate a dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia over the latter’s sea access deal with the break-away region of Somaliland have failed to make headway, VOA Somali journalist Harun Maruf reported on Saturday.

Officials from Somalia and Ethiopia have been in Kenyan capital Nairobi in recent days but no direct talks have since been held due to Mogadishu’s insistence that Addis Ababa pull out of its deal with Somaliland before any face-to-face meeting.

Ethiopia’s has not yet said whether it would scrap the deal or go ahead with its implementation, but there have been reports that Addis Ababa is reversing its plans to recognize the separatist region of Somaliland in northern Somalia.
