Mahad Salad takes hefty charge of Somalia’s scandal-hit spy agency

Mahad Salad

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Mahad Mohamed Salad on Sunday took charge of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), which has been mired in giant scandals over the past years, in a ceremony attended by the Prime Minister and other government officials.

He was seen posing for a photo along with the Prime Minister and other officials in the maximum security headquarters of the intelligence agency, an area where opposition alleged that former spy chief Fahad Yasin had orchestrated a number of attacks against their leaders and other incidents that had sent shockwaves across the country in the last five years.

Mr Salad was the first politician to publicly reveal the murder of a female intelligence officer allegedly by senior officials within the organization earlier last year. His handling of an investigation into the case as the family of the disappeared woman demands justice will be a test for his leadership, analysts say.
