Mass evacuations begin in flood-hit central Somalia town

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Authorities in central Somalia’s Baladweyne town called on tens of thousands of residents to evacuate immediately on Wednesday due to rising flood waters after Shabelle River burst its banks, state TV reported.

Images circulated on social media showed parts of the town inundated by flood waters, which also submerged key roads, forcing residents to flee their neighborhoods.

There have been no reports of casualties because of the flooding.
