MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Manhunt operation is underway after police officers shot dead a district commissioner in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, hours after he returned from an overseas medical trip.
The Mayor of Mogadishu Omar Filish ordered action taken against those involved in the murder of the official and appointed a committee that will oversee efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.
Commissioner of Hodan District Abdikarim Abdirahman (Dhagajun) was killed after police opened fire on his vehicle near Howlwadag junction on Wednesday night, hours after he returned from a medical trip to Turkey where he had been treated for injuries from a previous attack.
Police commanders of Howlwadag and Wabari districts have been arrested in connection with the murder, with reports by local media saying they were present at the checkpoint where district commissioner was killed.
Reports say 7 soldiers who were involved in the incident were also detained and manhunt was underway for several others who escaped following the shooting.
Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble sent condolences to “the family and friends” of the slain district commissioner and ordered security agencies to establish an investigation into his murder.
